8 Years Later.
In 2004, Hurricane Ivan destroyed over 90% of the Cayman Islands, the worst natural disaster the country had seen in decades. Among the destruction was the former Hyatt Regency Resort, which in its prime was one of the best and most sought after 5-star resorts in the Caribbean. The hurricane left the hotel structurally unsound and in shambles, overgrown with wildlife and left to rot. After a minor cleanup effort, the resort remained fenced off from the public for 8 years as it slowly crumbled away.
